In 1838 Walter Thomson, with Wife Jane, arrived in Australia and established a winemaking tradition. Faithful to his approach, our estate grown parcels are carefully tended by our vignerons to create wines of great intensity. The 2021 vintage in Clare Valley witnessed cooler, favourable conditions, which fostered gradual ripening, allowing the fruit to express its full character with grace and purity.

Tasting Notes

The nose displays a rich bouquet of dark fruits, toasty mocha and hickory, enhanced by notes of nutmeg ad dark chocolate. The palate is full-bodied with robust flavours of dark berries, cinnamon, black pepper and aniseed. The well-balanced oak and fruit create a round and rich mouthfeel, supported by soft, silky tannins and refreshing acidity.

From a superb Clare Valley vintage, this is a very dark maroon colour, with notes of leather, aniseed, soy, chocolate, cold tea, cloves and tobacco leaves on the nose. There is focus, balance and intensity here, with integrated oak, good energy, fine tannins, excellent structure and a lingering finish. Enjoy this over the next ten to fifteen years. 93.
