In 1838 Walter Thomson, with his wife Jane, arrived in Australia and established a winemaking tradition. Faithful to his approach, our estate grown parcels are carefully tended by our vignerons to create fine wines of great intensity.

Double Pass is the process of creating more flavour, richness, and complexity from the fruit we grow. The First Pass is harvested from estate grown fruit at optimum ripeness, and the Second Pass is harvested from the Vine Dried Shiraz, which has developed dark fruit and rich flavours.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of freshly cracked peppercorn and dried fruit with a twist of cloves. On the palate, this wine unfolds with layers of white pepper and rich chocolate, beautifully blended with vanilla and a hint of cinnamon spice. Juicy bramble fruit adds vibrancy, while balanced acidity and silky tannins provide depth and structure, leading to a long velvety finish.

Expert Reviews

Upfront and sweetly expressed, the bouquet shows dark plum, dried cherry, warm spice, and rich floral notes, leading to a succulent palate offering a beautifully rounded mouthfeel with silky tannins, making it velvety and delightfully drinkable. At its best: now to 2029. Written July 2025.

The idea here is to blend two different parcels of Shiraz with the intention of creating a whole greater than the sum of its parts. The first ‘Pass’ is estate fruit harvested at peak ripeness. The second ‘Pass’ is vine dried fruit, providing extra richness. The colour is a crimson/blood red. This is indeed richly flavoured, a bold style, with concentrated cherry flavours, chocolate, notes of leather, florals and mulberries with some floral hints. A supple texture with very good length leads to silky tannins, but what stands out about this wine is that it is chockful of flavour. Enjoy this any time over the next decade. 92.
