For over four generations, the Byrne family has farmed along the Murray River, building a deep connection to the land and a respect for the region that sustains us. Today, Byrne Vineyards remains family owned and operated, with Rob Byrne, Petria Byrne, and her sons Will and Aiden, continuing a legacy that began with a simple belief: great wine starts with healthy land.
We bring together generations of farming knowledge, outstanding vineyard sites and long-standing relationships with growers who share our values. From the historic Scotts Creek Vineyard to carefully selected parcels of fruit from premium Australian wine regions, our focus remains the same: producing wines with character, authenticity and a genuine sense of place.
A Family Legacy
The Byrne family's story began in 1960 when Eric and Romla Byrne purchased land near Waikerie and established the first vineyard. What started as a family farming enterprise soon became a lifelong commitment to the Riverland and its future.
Generations later, that same commitment continues to shape every decision we make. While vineyard practices and technology have evolved, our values remain unchanged: respect the land, farm responsibly and create wines that honestly reflect where they come from.
The Scotts Creek Story
One of the most significant chapters in our history began long before Byrne Vineyards acquired Scotts Creek.
In the 1970s, legendary Penfolds winemaker Max Schubert identified the Scotts Creek site as something special. Drawn to its limestone-rich soils and unique position on the Murray River, Schubert recognised its potential to produce fruit of exceptional character and structure.
The Byrne family acquired Scotts Creek Vineyard in 1998 and continue to nurture some of the original vines planted during that era. These mature vineyards remain an important part of our winemaking story, producing fruit with depth, concentration and a strong sense of place.
Where Vineyard Meets Wetland
Our estate spans 1,694 hectares along the Murray River near Morgan. Of this, 145 hectares are planted to vineyard, while vast areas remain dedicated to environmental conservation, including wetlands, floodplains and protected native vegetation.
This balance between agriculture and the natural environment is central to who we are. The vineyard exists within a living landscape, shaped by river systems, native flora and abundant wildlife. These natural influences contribute to the character of our vineyards and guide the way we farm.

Sustainability is woven into every aspect of our operation, from responsible water management and soil health to the protection of native ecosystems.
